"The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh"

Last year, the Church gave Andy and I  a gift certificate to Bogus Creek Outfitters. So on Saturday, we were able to redeem it and had such a wonderful time!

This was the road headed up the mountain toward our destination ~ Bogus Basin Ski Resort.

We loaded the sleighs by one of the lodges at the Resort.  There were two sleighs, each pulled by three horses.  Each sleigh held between 25 and 30 people.  It was cold, snowing and beautiful!  The temperature was around 19 degrees.

The words to this Christmas song really fit the occasion.

"Over the river and through the woods,
Oh, how the wind does blow.
It stings the toes and bites the nose
As over the ground we go."

The ride took us about 15-20 minutes higher up the mountain.  Our destination was a small cabin where they fed us dinner.

They also bragged of heated outhouses.

Immediately upon arrival at the cabin, the seated us in preassigned seating. The coffee and hot chocolate were ready to warm us up after our chilly ride.

Dinner was really delicious!   The first course was broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl.  It was the best broccoli cheddar soup I have ever had!

Then came the main course.  Steak, prawns, potatoes, and carrots.  Yummy!!  Dessert was a peach cobbler, but I didn't get a picture of that.

While we were eating there was musical entertainment.  This guy did the singing and he had a folk/old country style which added to the ambiance. We were informed that he was wearing the eye patch due to losing his eye in a gun fight.

They also entertained us with some cowboy poetry.  Funny stuff!
Then we boarded the sleigh and headed back down the mountain.  It was still cold, still snowing and still beautiful.

Andy and I had a great time. If you are ever in the Boise area during the winter time and you want something unique and fun to do, I would recommend Bogus Creek Outfitters.

That looks like such fun!!! I've wanted to go on a sleigh ride for a very long time! Unfortunately they are in short supply here in Texas. :)
